Anthony Joshua scored a spectacular TKO over former undisputed Heavyweight Champion Vladimyr Klitschko after getting up off the canvas to overpower the former champion. He accomplished this in fron of 90,000 fans at the Wembley Arena in London, England with fany former champions sitting at ringside. Along with his 11th round victory, excitement seems to have returned the Heavyweight division. Deontay Wilder, now controlling the WBC belt and also an undefeated Heavyweight and former Olympian challenged Joshua after the fight. Joseph Parker from New Zealand, Tyson Fury the former Super Champion who retired amidst admitted drug use is looking to return and was also called out after the fight by Joshua.
However, June 3rd, right here in south florida and up the street from the gym, and adding to some suspense, we will have 2 American and local heavyweights competing for the WBA Heavyweight title to be put on the list to fight and unify the new crowned Super Champion Anthony Joshua. 5th St Gym’s own “Fast” Fres Oquendo, who currently seems to be the most experienced professional Heavyweight in boxing will be entering the ring to face the former WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs. The two men fighting to be in the records books ast the oldes or 2nd oldest Heavyweight Champions in boxing history, (George Foreman holding the current record) have a combined 112 fights and 546 rounds fought as professional heavyweights.
