Tom Tsatas, Owner
Tom Tsatas, who has a BS in Business from Northeastern University, is the entrepreneurial mastermind behind the revival of the 5th St. Gym. His inspiration for reopening the historic gym can be attributed to his passion for the art of boxing, which began in his early teens. Boxing segued into Tom’s very active life- one full of competition- in the martial arts, survival training, Marathons, Triathlons and competitive adventure racing. Tom competed in over 200 amateur boxing and kickboxing fight competitions and was a national champion. He has organized many training camps and has trained under the guidance of world renowned trainer Freddy Roach at the Wildcard Gym in Hollywood, Ca. His camps have prepared his fighter against Evander Holyfield, James Toney, Oliver McCall and several other fights. He recently traveled to Russia where his fighter Fres Oquendo fought for the WBA Heavyweight Championship of the World. He currently promotes Fres Oquendo who is a WBC, WBO, WBA Latino,USBA, NABA & NABF champion. He is currently ranked #2 in the World.
Furthermore, two notable competitive adventure races in which Tom has participated are Eco-Challenge and ESPN X-Games. Eco-Challenge, the first reality show by Survivor’s creator Mark Burnett, was a series that aired on several broadcast television stations like MTV, USA and Discovery Channel. It featured a 7 to 10 day race where team members of five overcome various ecological obstacles like Mountain biking, land navigation, whitewater rafting, kayaking, climbing, running and mountaineering. Pathfinder Challenge, an adventure race was co-created by Tom, and was a nationally televised 1-3 day version of Eco-Challenge that spanned over seven years. He has also completed marathons, half marathons, several Spartan type races and a half-ironman. He is also had extensive training in dignitary protection and combatives training with knife & gun defense and disarming. He is trained with members of the armed forces including US. Marines, Special Forces, DSS, CIA and FBI as well as having survival training techniques he learned with Survival Expert Thomas Dorsch at the Pathfinder Wilderness School.
Tom’s primary focus at the moment is continuing the spirit of boxing the 5th St. Gym and promoting the WBA Heavyweight Championship in Chicago IL. between Fres Oquendo and Manuel Charr.
